RICHMOND, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) — Tim and Debbie Williams drove all the way from Port Charlotte, Florida to Richmond, Kentucky after they received a mandatory evacuation order from officials. “I put metal shutters up all the way around and took everything away from the windows, unplugged all the appliances, and brought everything in and set it up high,” Tim said. What was supposed to be a 15-hour drive, turned into 27 hours. The Williams said it was bumper-to-bumper traffic and the average speed on the highway was 18 miles per hour. “They eventually opened the shoulders of the road, you know, normally you can’t drive that, but people were just flying up and down through there,” Tim said. When they pulled over for gas, they were unable to fill up their tank. Luckily, after many stops, they eventually came across a gas station with enough gas to fill up their tank. The Williams said even though traffic was bad, they never experienced any road rage or bad car crashes. They added that they’re thankful they made it out before the hurricane makes landfall.   Categories: Featured, Local News, News Tags: evacuations, florida, gas, hurricane milton, Milton, port charlotte, Richmond, Traffic
