INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis man will face decades behind bars after his 3-year-old son died from ingesting narcotics. Tyrone Boyd was found guilty of neglect of a dependent, a Level 1 felony, after a two-day trial concluded on Oct. 9. He will be sentenced at a later date, but faces up to 50 years in prison. Muncie woman pleads guilty to supplying heroin that caused deadly overdose According to the Marion County Prosecutor's Office, Indianapolis metro police were called to an apartment on Newberry Road on Aug. 22, 2020, on report of an unresponsive child. Police learned that Boyd fell asleep in bed with his 3-year-old son only to wake up and find the child facedown and not breathing. Police noted that narcotics were also found on the bed. Toxicology reports uncovered fentanyl and other narcotics in the boy's system. “The home is supposed to be a safe place for our youth and the defendant’s negligence resulted in the most tragic of outcomes,” said Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears. “We hope that this serves as a reminder to do better for our children and that we will not tolerate those that jeopardize their safety.”
