BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Two single mothers in Tallahassee became first-time homeowners through Big Bend Habitat for Humanity. Warrick Dunn, a former NFL star and a Catholic High alum, helped. Dunn gave each a $5,000 down-payment check and $10,000 in furnishings from Aaron’s. A news release said these are Warrick Dunn Charities' 228th and 229th home celebrations. The non-profit finds single parents. It helps them become first-time homeowners in its "Homes for the Holidays" program. According to a news release, one mother, Jasmine, lived in a Habitat for Humanity home with her mother and three brothers after a storm damaged their house. Now, she is a patient care technician and a certified medical assistant. The news release said she is close to earning her A.S. in early childhood development, education and management. Her son, who graduated high school early, is pursuing a career in HVAC and welding. Her four-year-old daughter loves to play princess. Sharmetrieus has two daughters, the news release said. Her oldest will graduate high school soon. They plan to attend Florida State University to become a pediatrician. Her 11-year-old loves art, dance and basketball.
