BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — An investigation by the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office ended with the arrest of an accused drug dealer. EBRSO said the family of a victim of a fatal fentanyl overdose contacted deputies in September. According to the sheriff's office, the family said that the victim's father also died from an overdose in 2022 because of drugs from the same dealer. Deputies said the family gave investigators the name "Sid" as the suspected source in both cases. During the investigation, agents identified "Sid" as Cedric Gross, 44. According to the sheriff's office, agents conducted a controlled purchase of fentanyl from Gross before getting a search warrant for a home on Prescott Road. Deputies seized the following items: 2.3 ounces of fentanyl (around 600 lethal doses). One pound of marijuana. One ounce of THC wax. Digital scales. $4,772 (pending seizure). Glock .40 caliber handgun (reported stolen through EBRSO). Louisiana nursing home owner Bob Dean agrees to pay $8.2M after violating federal housing act Gross was arrested and charged with distribution of Schedule II narcotics (fentanyl), possession with the intent to distribute Schedule II narcotics (fentanyl), possession with the intent to distribute Schedule I narcotics (marijuana), possession with the intent to distribute Schedule I narcotics (THC wax), possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal possession of a firearm with drugs, illegal possession of a stolen firearm and illegal carrying of a firearm by a convicted felon. The sheriff's office stated, "Gross denied knowing either victim and also denied distributing drugs." Agents are working with EBRSO and BRPD for further investigation for potential homicide charges.
