Republican nominee for president Donald Trump brings his campaign to Berks County and will hold a rally Wednesday at Santander Arena in Reading, beginning at 7 p.m. City police and officials announced Tuesday that portions of Penn and Cherry streets in the vicinity of the arena at 700 Penn St. would be closed to traffic and parking beginning at 8 a.m. today. They also noted that the Penn Street Bridge could be closed temporarily at some points. Other roadways in Berks could be impacted by the visit. A free ticket is required to enter the arena and could be requested online and were to be available on a first-come first-served basis. Maximum registration is two tickets per mobile phone number. Doors to the arena will open at 3 p.m. Former President Trump also is scheduled to appear in Scranton Wednesday at 3 p.m. at Riverfront Sports complex. Trump’s running mate, Ohio Sen. JD Vance, held a rally at the Berks County Fairgrounds in Bern Township on Sept. 21 and hammered the platform of Democratic presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris. Democratic vice presidential candidate Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz visited Reading Oct. 2 and met with Latino business leaders at Mofongo Restaurant. The Trump campaign is scheduled to make stops in Aurora, Colorado and Reno, Nevada on Friday.
