FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A man has been arrested after a shooting that took the life of another man at an event center in Fresno, the Fresno Police Department said. Officers say they responded to the North Point Event Center located at 4277 N. West Ave. in Fresno for a shooting victim just before 8 p.m. Tuesday. Upon arrival, police say they located a man in his mid-20s suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was taken to the hospital, but despite lifesaving efforts, the man was pronounced deceased. Around the same time that officers were arriving at the scene, detectives say they received a call from a man stating he was the shooter. Police say the suspect, a man in his mid-20s, wanted to turn himself in. The Fresno Police Department said they made contact with the suspect at a canal about 150 feet away from the incident, and he was arrested and taken into custody. The relationship between the suspect and the victim is unknown. Detectives say one of the challenges they went through in this investigation was the language barrier, given that the involved individuals were Indian and a Punjabi translator had to be used to communicate. The identity of the victim and the suspect is unknown at this time. This is an ongoing investigation, but updates will be provided as they become available.
