YOSEMITE (KSEE/KGPE) - An "open letter to the public" posted on Reddit has accused the operator of services at Yosemite National Park of mismanagement, ignoring structural issues, and failing to look after their staff. The allegations against Yosemite concessionaire Aramark Destinations prompted the company to respond to the criticism with a statement to YourCentralValley.com. Aramark's role as a concessionaire means they are responsible for a number of operations within Yosemite National Park, such as lodging, food and beverage, retail, recreational and transportation services. Beloved hotel in Yosemite to close indefinitely In the open letter on Reddit, written by "a concerned employee of Yosemite Hospitality," it claims Aramark's mismanagement directly threatens the safety of visitors. "Several buildings, including visitor lodging, are in serious disrepair. Reports of deteriorating structures, such as roofs in need of repair, present an immediate danger to guests and staff. Without proper maintenance, there is a risk of injuries and/or fatalities," the open letter reads. In response to that claim, Aramark wrote in their statement that they are aware of all structural concerns and are actively working to fix the issues. "We have partnered with the NPS to renovate and restore the 97-year-old Ahwahnee Hotel while keeping it open to visitors," Aramark said. "As announced by the NPS in September, the 159-year-old Wawona Hotel will close for a comprehensive condition assessment that will inform future restoration efforts for the historic structure." $35M going towards improving Yosemite’s Ahwahnee Hotel The Reddit post also included allegations that some staff have not been paid for weeks - and are not being adequately fed. Aramark in response denied any mismanagement and claim to always have their staff's best interest at heart. "We always prioritize the wellbeing of park staff. All employees receive timely compensation and are well-nourished," Aramark said. "With a 35-year history of excellence in serving national parks, we take great pride in connecting guests with the outdoors and are committed to delivering a positive experience for park visitors and staff." Aramark described themselves in the statement as holding themselves to a high standard - and "continue to work closely with the National Park Service to enhance both visitor and employee experiences."
