They said this money would help them catch up.   "We have to have the right tools, so we're pretty far behind in some of the systems that we have so we've been upgrading that, so that we can look ahead and look into crime prevention," said Major Holly Anderson, Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office.  In total, the Operations Center is getting close to $2 million in funding from the county and the feds. Some will be used for renovations including redesigning the entrance to the main building for improved security. It will also be used to create more office space and build a dedicated conference room for briefings and multi-agency coordination.  The Emergency Management Department explained that with their current space, it's difficult to support the 20 to 30 personnel they need. The Sheriff's Office said the funding will also go towards new technology and expanding their drone program for search and rescues.  "Now we can use the drone, it's very cost-effective. We can send the drone up, assess the patient, determine what we need so that we're taking up the mountain to that location only the resources that we need," said Undersheriff Aaron Williamson, Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office.  The Sheriff's Office said they're also looking into technology for automated license plate readers that can relieve the workload on staff. County officials say the funding will also offer resources for tackling the growing issue of youth-related crimes saying that right now they're seeing record numbers of homicides committed by juveniles.   Emergency Management said the designs for the operation center are still being finalized with construction to happen within the next two years.
