WARWICK, R.I. (WLNE) — Three airports in Florida have already closed ahead of Hurricane Milton. Massachusetts residents Beth Sweeney and Betty Smith landed at T.F. Green International Airport on Tuesday after cutting their vacation in Kissimmee short to avoid the storm. “Our flight was for tomorrow,” said Sweeney. “We re-booked it yesterday morning and we felt lucky to get the flights.” The two caught one of the last flights home to T.F. Green, with Orlando International Airport reported to shut down Wednesday at 8 a.m. “We actually had a friend that went over to Tampa and she’s stuck there now, they canceled her flight,” said Smith. Shirley Sylvia from New Bedford said she feels fortunate to be back in Southern New England after visiting family. “Very happy that I got home in the nick of time, yes I am, my family here was concerned but we were good, we’re all good,” said Sylvia. Sylvia said the Orlando airport was not as busy as she thought it would be. “The airport when we got first there it was like, ‘this is a little strange, it’s not as busy as usual, but it picked up,” explained Sylvia. Two flights to T.F. Green were canceled Tuesday, one from Fort Myers and one from Tampa. Some travelers told ABC 6 News that there was an eerie feeling in Orlando with many residents evacuating over the last couple days. “A weird quiet, even in the stores when they were busy, they seemed quiet, strangely quiet,” said Sweeney.
