NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Crime in New Orleans East continues to decline exponentially in recent years, but one road has had a history of homicides in the area.
Most recently, a 15-year-old boy was shot and killed in the 5100 block of Bundy Road, and while the NOPD continues to make strides in driving crime down in the Seventh District, that street alone has seen several homicides over the past decade.

In 2023, a man was found inside of his vehicle, shot to death, at the intersection of Bundy Road and Lake Forest Boulevard. In September of 2022, a fatal hit-and-run crash killed a pedestrian at the intersection of Chef Menteur Highway and Bundy Road. In 2021, a shooting killed one man in the 6700 block of Bundy Road.
"There is usually a connection between violence, drugs and gangs," Raphael Goyeneche with the Metropolitan Crime Commission said. "So, law enforcement will say, do we have a gang issue there? Do we have narcotics being dealt there? And if there's a yes to either or both of those, then there's usually going to be a direct correlation between the gangs and the narcotics activity and the violence."
In February of 2018, a man was shot and killed in the 5100 block of Bundy Road. In 2017, a woman was shot to death in the drivers seat of a car on Bundy Road near the Interstate 10 service road. In 2014, a 24-year-old man was shot several times in the parking lot of the Lakewind East Apartment Complex near Bundy Road.

We reached out to the NOPD for comment, they responded to us in an email saying,
"The NOPD utilizes crime trends and analytical data in its policing to address areas that may be seeing an increase in criminal activity."
The Seventh District has seen a 42% decrease in homicides, a 40% decrease in shootings and a 35% decrease in armed robberies.
