MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- At the Memphis International Airport, one family is returning home from Florida ahead of Hurricane Milton. Memphis' airport warned travelers on social media Tuesday that many airports were closing in Florida ahead of the developing hurricane. One family who seemingly evacuated in the nick of time spoke with WREG and said that the moment they heard schools were closing, they knew that it was time to go. "When I got that alert that school was closing Monday through Wednesday, I got a bad feeling right after that," Cicely Williams said. Traffic is moving slowly down I-75 and Tampa's airport is closed as the city braces for Hurricane Milton while it barrels through the gulf toward Florida. "I was nervous on my ability to get out of there." The mother of two said she doesn't live near the Sun Coast where mandatory evacuations are taking place and where most of the damage and destruction is expected. She told WREG her only thoughts were about the safety of her two boys. "I told them that there is a storm coming and we're going to go home to Memphis and get out of the storm's way so God can do what God needs to do," Williams said. But her thoughts may still linger about her home in Tampa. "I'm leaving everything in the Lord's hands and whatever the Lord sees fit, the Lord sees fit," Williams said. "All material things essentially don't matter." Williams added that her thoughts and prayers are with her friends and loved ones hunkering down back in Tampa.
