This Friday, a new place is opening with a slightly different concept that may be for you. At this new place, you can come in, have a glass of whiskey and even get a haircut, but it's going to mean much more than that. "We realize that you can get your haircut anywhere, we realize you can get a whiskey everywhere, but when you come here, we want to get you a feeling of quality,” Michael Thurman, owner of Patton and Ryan Barber and Whiskey Lounge, said.It was a plan that started just three months ago, when it looked like a shell of what it’s transformed into and it’s on the shoulders of history. "This building itself, right under our lounge, is some of the tunnels where they would smuggle bootleg liquor into this building,” Thurman said. The lounge is a place where not only all of what we've talked about is here for you to experience, but somewhere where the space strives to build up our community. "It offers opportunity for people to share ideas, maybe the things that are burdening them, the things that make them feel the harshness of life, but in a conversation like this, a safe space like this, where you can thrive,” he said. "Barbershops have always been a safe space, it's where you can have those conversations, you can disagree and not have to hate each other,” Thurman said.Starting this Friday, Oct. 11, that dream of bringing these ideas into one room will come to fruition.
