Bo Jackson’s senior season at Villa Angela-St. Joseph has come to an end. Coach Jeff Rotsky informed The News-Herald on Oct. 8 that while Jackson does not need surgery, the knee injury Jackson sustained VASJ’s 53-35 win over Kenston on Sept. 13 “was serious enough that it ended his season.” The 6-foot-1, 210-pounder is ranked the sixth-best college football prospect in Ohio for the 2025 graduating class. He has committed to play football at Ohio State. “We received some very sad and unfortunate news,” Rotsky told The News-Herald. “Bo Jackson is done for the season. By the grace of God, he’ll be fine. He doesn’t need surgery. … The doctor confirmed it from the MRI. All I can say is the injury is serious enough that it ended his season. It’s going to take about two more months to heal.” VASJ’s Bo Jackson is attended to after suffering an apparent knee injury Sept. 13 at Kenston. (Paul DiCicco – for The News-Herald) Rotsky did not elaborate further on the extent of Jackson’s injury. Jackson was injured on a 15-yard run in the first quarter of VASJ’s game against Kenston. Upon being hit by multiple players, Jackson spun to his right and went down, holding his left knee in pain. Jackson told The News-Herald after the game, “I was running and trying to cut back and somebody ran into my knee and rolled it a little bit.” Jackson limped off the field and spent the rest of the first half with an ice pack on his knee. He walked off the field afterward without a limp and took time to sign autographs and pose for photos with fans. Jackson ends the season — and his high school football career — having run for 588 yards and 10 touchdowns in just over three games. As a junior, Jackson ran for 1,329 yards and 27 touchdowns. He also had 64 tackles, four pass breakups and five tackles for loss on defense. Rotsky said “without a doubt” Jackson was headed for Ohio’s covet Mr. Football award prior to the injury. Bo Jackson “I’ve coached for 28 years,” Rotsky said, “and I never thought I would have a player that would rival — from a high school standpoint — Bam Childress.” Rotsky coached Brandon “Bam” Childress at Chanel. Childress went on to play at Ohio State. Said Rotsky, “Now I have two 1-A’s in Bo and Bam.” Attempts to contact Jackson were not successful, but Rotsky said, “It’s a very emotional time.” He said for the past four weeks, Jackson has been at every VASJ practice and is supporting his teammates. “He knows that being a captain doesn’t end because of an injury,” Rotsky said. In Jackson’s absence, VASJ will turn to T.J. Moore and others. Moore has run for 587 yards so far this season. VASJ (5-1) hosts Ursuline (6-1) on Oct. 11. “This is the stretch run,” Rotsky said. “We’re going to wrap our arms arond Bo — he needs that right now — and he’s going to continue to lead us. Just not on the field. “In a couple of months, Bo Jackson is going to be back being Bo Jackson. Ohio State has nothing to worry about. They’re getting one of the finest young men in the state of Ohio.”
