WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- A man was fatally shot in the middle of the day in Northeast D.C. on Tuesday. Officers said they responded to the shooting just before 1:30 p.m. in the 900 block of 7th Street NE. There, they found a man suffering from gunshot wound injuries. He died there. Police: Minor hit by car near Parkdale High School In a statement posted on X, Ward 6 Councilmember Charles Allen called for an increased police presence there. He said the shooting Tuesday afternoon was "disturbingly close to JO Wilson Elementary and in the middle of the day." "[W]ith this being the second shooting in the area in less than a week, it's clear we need stronger efforts to disrupt this violence," Allen's statement read, in part. He called on the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) to continue and increase its efforts to arrest people for distributing amphetamines, crack cocaine and illegal firearms.
