(KRON) -- A popular decades-old San Francisco restaurant is expanding to the East Bay. Original Joe's is opening a Walnut Creek location in 2025, the restaurant told KRON4. Original Joe's is set to open at 1300 S Main St. between March and May of next year, according to the project planner for the City of Walnut Creek Simir Gill. The restaurant is currently under construction as they are working to add a second floor. Renowned San Francisco bakery known for croissants to open new location The upcoming Walnut Creek location marks the first time the Italian-American restaurant will be in the East Bay since the original establishment opened in San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood in 1937. Original Joe's has since opened a restaurant in Daly City's Westlake neighborhood. There is also currently a North Beach restaurant at 601 Union St. (Photo courtesy of City of Walnut Creek) Original Joe's will be located where Stanford's Restaurant and Bar was -- right in front of Macy's at Broadway Plaza and S Main Street. Stanford's reportedly closed back in 2019. The opening of the Walnut Creek was announced on Original Joe's Instagram back in February of 2023. Original Joe's is also the owner of Little Original Joe's, which has two San Francisco locations: West Portal and Marina. Elena's Mexican Restaurant, which opened earlier this year in West Portal, is also under the same ownership. Original Joe's was opened by Croatian immigrant Tony Rodin. The restaurant has been featured in Bon Appétit Magazine, which is a highly-respected U.S. publication with a following of millions.
