SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Excitement is building in the city of Springfield as it prepares for the Induction of the Basketball Hall of Fame Class of 2024. The Enshrinement ceremony is one of the most elite nights on the basketball calendar each year, and although it's happening a little later due to scheduling conflicts with the Olympics this summer, the birthplace of basketball didn't miss a step or a pass to make this night a slam dunk for all. Once again the city of Springfield is rolling out the red carpet as basketball royalty makes their way to the birthplace of basketball, "It's kind of like the Oscars red carpet you know the whole thing, and all these famous people right here in Springfield," shared Steve Delnickas, Director of Museum Operations at the Basketball Hall of Fame. This premiere event is where the new class to the Hall of Fame is honored and joins the ranks of Basketball's Finest. NBA Legends will be enshrined into the Hall of Fame this year like Vince Carter, Chauncey Billups, and Seimone Augustus to name a few. There will also be big names presenting at this year's event like Magic Johnson, and Michael Cooper, and there are rumors of a Celtics legend that's larger than life making a special appearance. The celebration kicks off at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 12th at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut with an autograph session followed by a press conference and later a celebration and awards gala. A full day of enshrinement activities will take place in Springfield on Sunday, October 13th starting promptly at 10 a.m. with an NBA 2K tournament, VIP reception, and red carpet show concluding with the class of 2024 being enshrined into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. There are still tickets available for Saturday's autograph session and Sunday's enshrinement ceremony.
