Oklahoma City Police release more details in high speed chase

OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) - One man was arrested after leading Oklahoma City Police officers on a dangerously high speed chase Tuesday morning.

According to OKCPD, officers tried pulling over a pickup truck driven by Charles Sharp near NE 50th Street and I-35 Service Road around 1:30 a.m.
“Officers tried to stop that vehicle. For whatever reason, it decided to take off,” said Sgt. Dillon Quirk, with OKCPD. “[Sharp] led officers on a pursuit.”

Early on in the chase, a passenger jumped out of the truck.
"They sustained some injuries while jumping from the vehicle,” said Quirk.
Sharp continued on though, at times reaching reckless speeds.
"Speeds fluctuated between about 25 miles an hour to near 100 miles an hour while on the interstate,” said Quirk.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol assisted officers on the pursuit. According to an incident report, Sharp swerved into and appeared to try to ram into a trooper’s vehicle.

The chase ended near SW 59th St. and I-44.
"Where that suspect vehicle was successfully TVI'ed by an OHP trooper,” said Quirk. “The driver was taken into custody after that TVI was performed."
Sharp was booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center. According to the jail’s website, he’s facing charges for endangering others while eluding a police officer, assault and battery on a police officer, possession of a controlled substance, driving under suspension and speaking 26 miles per hour or more over the speed limit.
