ST. TAMMANY PARISH, La. (WGNO) — The Louisiana State Police are investigating a crash in Abita Springs that happened Tuesday morning, Oct. 8, and claimed the lives of two people. According to the LSP, troopers with began the investigation around 6:45 a.m. after receiving report of the crash on Louisiana Highway 36 near Kipp Road. Homicide investigation underway after teen fatally shot in New Orleans East The initial investigation showed that 67-year-old Jeanna Dysart, of Abita Springs, was driving a 2019 Honda Fit east on Highway 36 when, at the same time, 29-year-old Samantha Gaines, of Pearl River, was driving a 2020 GMC Acadia west. LSP officials said the Honda crossed the centerline and hit the GMC head-on. Dysart was reportedly unrestrained and was pronounced dead at the scene. Gaines was also pronounced dead at the scene, and her restraint use is unknown. According to the LSP, a child was also in the GMC at the time of the crash. The child sustained moderate injuries and was helped by passing driver until they could be taken to a hospital. LSP officials said the investigation is ongoing, and routine toxicology samples were collected.
