Everything is upside down.” Serge Benoit moved to Kansas City in 2021 to be closer to his daughter. Before that, he had been driving a taxi for 40 years in New York. Yveline describes her husband as a caring, hardworking family man. “He’s a good father, a good man, a hard worker,” Yveline explained. “He’s a funny guy, he’s caring, sensitive. He’s a good, good man.” Benoit’s wife says the bullet caused extensive damage to his mouth, jaw, and tongue. Benoit is still in the hospital. Still unknown if Andrew Lester is mentally fit for trial in Ralph Yarl shooting Jakori Conaway, 18, has been charged with assault in the first degree and armed criminal action in connection with the shooting on Sept. 15. According to court documents, Conaway is accused of shooting Benoit at the end of his zTrip ride near 9th and Myrtle. When detectives got to the scene, they contacted a manager for zTrip. The manager told police the vehicle had a dash camera, which KCPD obtained. Court documents outline the footage showing Conaway handing the zTrip driver cash at the start of the ride. Court documents say that Conaway changed into a black hoodie and face mask during the ride. At the end of the ride, Conaway pointed an AR pistol at Benoit, who pushed the gun away and started complying. Conaway then shot Benoit in the back of the head.
