LIBERTY, Mo. -- New developments regarding a potential trial for Andrew Lester, the man accused of shooting Ralph Yarl. Last month, a mental evaluation was ordered for Lester following a motion from his attorneys claiming Lester couldn't remember facts relating to the case and showed clear signs of confusion. Before the evaluation was ordered, Lester's trial was originally supposed to start on Monday. Tuesday's hearing was to see the status of the evaluation. But the judge walked in at 1:02 p.m. and the hearing was over by 1:07 p.m. 61-year-old sentenced to prison for deadly 2022 stabbing in Kansas City It still isn't clear if Lester is mentally fit or not for trial. The court is hoping to learn that by November 9, 2024. The judge also wanted to go ahead and set a tentative trial date, pending the results of that mental evaluation. The judge anticipates a two week trial window for this trial and his earliest opening would be in February.
