APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) - Officials with the nonprofit Bikes for Kids Wisconsin, an organization dedicated to increasing the use of bicycle-based transportation for everyone, say they will soon be holding a bike donation drive in Appleton. Brown County Historical Society celebrates 125 years of preserving heritage with anniversary gala According to a release, Bikes for Kids Wisconsin will be holding the bike drive on Saturday, October 12, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the parking lot of Appleton's Thrive Architects. With a goal of giving away 2,000 bikes throughout the state, the organization is asking the public to donate to them gently used bikes of all sizes and styles. After the bicycles are donated to Bikes for Kids Wisconsin, they will then be refurbished and tuned up by staff and volunteers throughout the winter months before being given to children and adults who need them for transportation to school or work, participation in sports and events, and to enhance their overall quality of life. Every donated bicycle makes a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals facing financial hardship. It’s heartwarming when the public recognizes that need and offers to support with the donation of a bicycle. Having access to low-cost transportation can change an individual’s life by giving them opportunities they wouldn't have otherwise. Kristie GoForth, Executive Director at Bikes for Kids Wisconsin Donated bikes can be used or new and can once again, be dropped off between 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 12, at the Thrive Architects in Appleton at 2339 West Wisconsin Avenue. Those looking to donate bicycles to Bikes for Kids Wisconsin should look for a large truck with signage in the parking lot. Officials say the truck will promptly leave for Madison at 1:30 p.m. so be sure to drop off any bikes to be donated before then.
