EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) -- The El Paso City Council is moving forward with a road project that would extend Sean Haggerty Drive in Northeast El Paso, the City announced in a news release. The City Council awarded a construction contract on Tuesday, Oct. 8 to Jordan Foster Construction LLC for the project, which would extend Sean Haggery from Nathan Bay Drive to Dyer Street, the City said. The goal of the project is to improve traffic flow for all roadway users, including bicyclists and pedestrians, the City said. "The approximate $26 million street connectivity project is an important missing link in far Northeast El Paso’s transportation network," the City said. The project includes the construction of a new four-lane bridge, roadway approaches, pedestrian/bicycle accommodations, decorative street lighting, illumination, a canopy bridge structure, and drainage structures, the City said. The project will also include construction of an asphalt roadway, the addition of bike lanes, ADA compliant sidewalks, landscaping, trees with their own irrigation system, and dark-sky complaint street lighting, the City said. Construction is expected to start in the spring of 2025, the City said.
