Throughout my life, I’ve always been susceptible to neck pain, even when I was a child. I remember waking up one school day and crying out for my mother because I couldn’t move my head out of one position without excruciating pain running down my neck. Needless to say, I did not make it to school that day until my neck relaxed and my pain was alleviated. Later, as a newlywed, I woke up one morning with the exact same problem I’d had all those years ago. My bewildered husband helped me get in to see a chiropractor who was concerned about my severe neck pain. Unfortunately, the pain was so intense, I couldn’t hold anything down. And if you’ve ever tried to throw-up gently without moving your neck, you know what an impossible feat that is. It didn’t dawn on me until later in life that my neck issues, while seemingly sporadic, had common elements to them. Both major episodes had happened after a night of sleep. This leads me to believe that those episodes were triggered by my pillow and how I slept on it. If you’ve ever dealt with neck pain, you know how disruptive it can be to your normal life. Neck pain can literally ruin your whole day, as well as any activity or plans you had for that day. I have been using the lower side because that is more comfortable to me. Most of the time, I am a back sleeper, but on occasion, I turn to one side or the other. This pillow allows me to sleep on my side without any loss of comfort. Memory foam: Sleeping on a memory foam pillow has several advantages over traditionally filled pillows. Memory foam retains its shape which helps align your head, neck, and spine while you sleep. It can also relieve pressure points on your body, helping you wake with less pain in the morning. A downside of some memory foam pillows is the odor they may give off. For this issue, the Elviros website recommends letting your new pillow “air out” for 24 hours before using it the first time. This seems to get rid of any unpleasant odors. When I first pulled out my pillow from the box it was shipped in, I immediately gave it the “sniff test” to see if it had any odor. To my delight, it did not! I was able to rest on it the first night without noticing any odors whatsoever. It offers the neck support I need to eliminate awkward neck positions, which can lead to a poor night of sleep and pain and stiffness in the morning. Although I do notice less neck pain when I wake up in the morning, I’m still having a little shoulder pain. It is the softest memory foam I’ve felt. The great thing about this pillow is there are options for everyone. That means a better quality pillow that’s good for you and the environment. Honestly, it’s just a well-made pillow.
