TOPEKA (KSNT) - A man accused of a large animal cruelty operation in Topeka has been sentenced to jail. Charles Solomon was sentenced Friday, Oct. 4 to one year in jail, minus time served, after pleading guilty to all 26 charges of animal cruelty in July. He also cannot care for any animals, according to court documents. This is in connection to a massive animal abuse case in the Capital City earlier this year. Police and members of the Humane Society of the United States helped rescue numerous animals from a home in the 1400 block of Southwest Fillmore Street on Jan. 30. This was after multiple reports of animal abuse were sent to authorities. Topeka police officers found 91 animals in the house: 73 alive and 18 dead. The animals had little to no access to food and clean water and were found living in hazardous conditions. Animals rescued from the home were taken by the Humane Society to new homes in the aftermath. Solomon and another suspect, Desiree Therrien, were arrested in connection to the discovery. Therrien is facing eight counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty. She is still awaiting a trial for this case.
