Dell and Stephen Curry, Joe “Jellybean” Bryant and Kobe Bryant, Larry Nance and Larry Jr. There are a handful of fathers and sons who have both won NBA titles. The first father-son duo to win a championship were Matt Sr. and Matt Jr. Guokas. Rick Barry won in 1975 with the Golden State Warriors. He had three sons follow in his footsteps, but it was Brent that won with the Spurs in 2005. Bill and Luke Walton, Mychal and Klay Thompson, and Gary Payton and Gary Payton II also have each earned rings in the league. But two nights ago, an NBA first took place as LeBron James played alongside his son Lebron “Bronny” James, Jr. Before that preseason Lakers game, a father and son duo had yet to play at the same time on the same court. His son Bronny was drafted by the Lakers this past summer. The Spurs connection- Spurs color announcer and former player Sean Elliott called the elder James’ first NBA game back in 2003. Coincidentally, Jacob Tobey, the Spurs new play-by-play announcer called Bronny James’ firsy USC game in 2023. Welcome to the Thread.
