NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A New Orleans man found guilty of killing two people in the 2014 "Burgundy Massacre" has been sentenced. The Office of U.S. Attorney Duane Evans reported that Blair Taylor was sentenced to life in prison after a jury convicted him of two counts of causing death through the use of a firearm. Homicide investigation underway after teen fatally shot in New Orleans East Court documents state that on Aug. 10, 2024, Taylor and two others went to "retaliate against a narcotics dealer who had stolen drugs from the mother of one of Taylor's co-conspirators" on Burgundy Street. Taylor then reportedly fired shots at a crowd of people, including children. Court documents state that another person fatally shot the intended target, and Taylor fatally shot a 16-year-old girl. St. Bernard Parish drug investigation leads to two arrests Evans said a 2-year-old and a 4-year-old were among five other people who were shot. In 2017, Taylor was found guilty of two counts of second-degree murder and five counts of attempted second-degree murder. However, he received a new trial in 2022 after a Supreme Court ruling declared non-unanimous verdicts unconstitutional. In Taylor's 2022 retrial, he was found not guilty. Thibodaux student accused of threatening to bring gun to school According to Evans, a federal grand jury later indicted Taylor in connection with the case following the not-guilty verdict and an investigation. On June 30, Taylor was found guilty of causing death through the use of a firearm following a three-day trial. On Thursday, Oct. 3, Taylor was sentenced to life in prison for each charge.
