DeSoto County DA's Office partners with ICE for deportations

MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The DeSoto County District Attorney's Office says it is partnering with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to deport illegal immigrants in the county.
As of Tuesday morning, Miguel Godinez, charged in Southaven, Miss. is in ICE custody and has initiated the deportation process, the office said.
According to a press release, they are working with ICE to facilitate the deportation of 13 other illegal immigrants with immigration holds who are currently housed in the DeSoto County Jail.

"This collaboration goes beyond policy; it is a legal obligation under state lawthat mandates full cooperation with federal authorities to ensure the swift deportation of illegalimmigrants who pose a threat to our community," said the D.A.'s office.
The 13 immigrants have been charged with offenses such as DUI, drug-related crimes, child pornography, assault, and identity theft. Reports show they came from countries such as Nicaragua, Guatemala and Mexico.
