KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A 3-year-old girl was hospitalized Tuesday morning after being mauled by a dog in Independence, Missouri, the Independence Fire Department said. According to IFD, at about 10:10 a.m., crews were dispatched to the area of East R.D. Mize Road and Gateway Drive on reports of a child being attacked by a dog. Upon arrival, crews found the dog secured in its kennel, however, the child was not at the scene. Woman charged after hitting three students outside Van Horn High School After contacting the caller, the individual told IFD that the victim was a 3-year-old girl and that she had suffered a serious laceration to her neck, along with other injuries. The little girl was taken to Children's Mercy Hospital, and the dog is now in the custody of Animal Control. According to IFD, the case is being investigated by the Independence Police Department.
