(COLORADO SPRINGS) — On Saturday, Oct. 12 the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) will join forces with Mountain County 107.3 and SCHEELS to host its fourth annual Balltoberfest. CSPD said the public can make a difference by donating a new sports ball to support CSPD's Play COS Program, where patrol officers will keep sports balls like footballs, soccer balls, and basketballs in their cruisers to give out to kids and teens during shifts. The program was started in January 2021 as a way to increase positive community interactions with police. Since its inception, the program has given away over 8,200 to local kids and teens. There have been 141 Play COS events and donations made to three community centers and 42 local schools. The event on Saturday will feature a Touch-a-Truck with law enforcement vehicles, games, and 20% off sports balls at SCHEELS.
