(SUMMIT COUNTY) — Arapahoe Basin Ski Area started making snow early Tuesday morning, Oct 8. "While temperatures have still been high here in Summit County this fall," said Shayna Silverman, communications manager at A-Basin, "our snowmaking team is precise and ready to jump whenever the right conditions window presents itself." Snowmaking conditions are ideal when the temperature and dewpoint are pretty close together just below freezing. Silverman says snowmaking is all about layering. "This first layer is all about keeping the ground cool and wet for more snow to stick," she said. Last year, the ski area opened on Oct. 29 thanks to some natural snow that fell on top of the snow the team had been creating. Silverman says when the natural snow does come, they'll open as soon as they are able. "Keep looking out for colder temps," said Silverman as the snowmaking teams will make snow every chance they get.  "And don’t forget to thank a snowmaker!"
