LAPLACE, La. (WGNO) — An 11-year-old girl and her 50-year-old uncle were fatally shot Friday night after deputies say they were killed by gunfire that was intended for someone else. Cartez Foster, 23, and Patrick Maxon, 26, are now each facing two counts of first-degree murder among other charges. St. John the Baptist Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies made the arrests after linking the shooting to a fight that happened earlier in the night near the East St. John High School Football Stadium. During a news conference on Monday, Oct. 7, Sheriff Mike Tregre identified the victims as 50-year-old Ron Tate and his niece, 11-year-old Sa' Miya Lee McClain. Homicide investigation underway after teen fatally shot in New Orleans East Surveillance video shows Foster and Maxon allegedly open fire on their target shortly before midnight, who was walking past the house on North Sugar Ridge Drive, where deputies say Tate and Sa' Miya were inside, setting up the home for a toddler’s birthday party that was planned for Saturday. “I was sitting on the couch, watching TV when I heard what sounded like machine guns going off,” said neighbor Mary Ann Wancket. The sheriff says the suspects were seeking revenge after being attacked for allegedly pistol-whipping a woman Friday evening. They then learned the altercation happened ahead of the shooting. Tregre also credited the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office and crime cameras for leading to the suspects’ arrests in Metairie. “They fled the area, and we tracked them to Jefferson Parish,” Tregre explained. “5:22 a.m. Saturday morning, both suspects were taken into custody.” 13-year-old dead after accidental shooting in Meraux A third family member inside the house was grazed by a bullet but is expected to be okay. Six vehicles were also shot. “We just never had any problems in this neighborhood, and I have the nicest neighbors. I've been here 26 years and never had anything like this,” said Wancket. “It’s very sad.”   Tregre said he would support the death penalty in this case, saying, “There’s no doubt.” Latest Posts Two arrested in connection with Louisiana shooting that left girl, her uncle dead Biden pushes back on misinformation ahead of Hurricane Milton Recovery Starts Here: Recovery is Real by Ronnie LeDuff Recovery Starts Here: Recovery is Real by Apostle Keith Richard Recovery Starts Here: Expanding Recovery Pathways
