The Detroit Lions follow their week of rest with a chance to get their revenge on a Dallas Cowboys team that has looked very vulnerable so far this season. The Cowboys will host the Lions in Dallas for the third straight year, where they are normally tough to beat. However, after going undefeated at home in the regular season last year, the Cowboys have surprisingly looked very poor at home, losing both of their games at Jerry World to start the season. Today’s Question of the Day is… Which Detroit Lions player is the biggest key to victory over the Cowboys? My answer: I’m going to cheat and say both Carlton Davis III and Terrion Arnold. Against the Seahawks last week, both of the Lions’ starting outside cornerbacks were given a tough task, and while they were called for a ton of penalties in that game, they fought hard and ultimately put up a good fight. Sunday isn’t going to get a whole lot easier for them. The Cowboys may not have the depth at receiver that Seattle does, but they do have Ceedee Lamb, who absolutely scorched the Lions’ secondary in their previous matchup. Lamb had a career year in 2023, which led to him becoming the second-highest-paid receiver in the NFL this offseason. Against the Lions, Lamb was targeted 17 times, catching 13 passes for 227 yards and a touchdown. The Lions’ outside corners for that game (Kindle Vildor and Cameron Sutton) were responsible for 192 of those yards. The Lions showed that despite Lamb going nuclear on their secondary, they were still able to nearly pull off an upset victory. But still, 227 yards is a bit absurd, and perhaps if any one of those plays were prevented, the result could have been different and not left in the hands of the officials. If Arnold and Davis can find a way to mitigate the damage dealt by Lamb, I really like the Lions’ chances in this game.
