MENASHA, Wis. (WFRV) - Menasha police officers say a string of vehicle break-ins over the weekend happened simply because people forgot to lock their doors. "It's a crime of opportunity with these break-ins and what they're doing is they're pulling on car doors and if those car doors are open they're looking for any valuables," said Menasha police lieutenant Adam Schulz. He said that his department received about five calls from people reporting vehicle break-ins in the Menasha area over the weekend. He said that usually when there are vehicle break-ins some cases go unreported so it's likely that the actual number is higher than that. He said the largest concentration was on Doty Island. Right now, officers said they don't know how many people may be involved with potentially perpetuating these crimes. Officers remind residents to lock their vehicles at night and to bring any valuables or money they have in their vehicles inside. "If you see something suspicious that doesn't look right, you see someone in the middle of the night going up to cars or slowly going up to cars then call the police department," Schulz said. "We can try to catch up to them and see what they're doing."
