Event Date:  October 8, 2024 - 12:00pm By Denise Clodjeaux Navigating resources and advanced care planning is the topic of the next Rotary Club of Carson City meeting. The public is invited to attend the meeting which takes place Tuesday, Oct. 8, at noon in the Brewery Arts Center’s Grand Ballroom. Longtime registered nurse and clinical liaison Brian Hale is the featured speaker. He will share important information about services available, after hospital discharge, from home health, and hospice and how our community partners work together to support community members that need support. Hale will also address some misconceptions about hospice. “I would like to change the idea that you must only have days to weeks to live. Hospice does not mean you have to give up hope, nor does it mean you have to stop all medications and medical care,” he says. Hale explains that people on hospice care still have access to many services. “Under hospice there may be nutritional counseling, and limited therapies provided from a safety perspective rather than restorative.” The meeting is an opportunity for anyone to learn more about hospice and also about preplanning advanced care for themselves. Those interested in attending should email [email protected]. The Brewery Arts Center is located at 449 West King Street in Carson City.
