AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Governor Abbott announced on Monday he directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to deploy Texas emergency resources to Florida and Tennessee ahead of Hurricane Milton, which is slated to make landfall on Wednesday. This comes after Florida's Division of Emergency Management requested aid ahead of Hurricane Milton and the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency needs assistance for recovery efforts after Hurricane Helene. "Texas is swiftly deploying emergency response personnel and resources to Florida as Hurricane Milton prepares to make landfall on Florida’s Gulf Coast later this week,” said Governor Abbott. “I also directed the Texas Division of Emergency Management to send additional state resources to Tennessee to assist in recovery efforts for communities impacted by Hurricane Helene." Tropical tracker: Category 4 Hurricane Milton weakens slightly TDEM deployed resources to assist in Hurricane Milton, including the following: emergency management personnel to assist with resource coordination efforts, swiftwater rescue boat squads and search and rescue personnel to help with flood response efforts. TDEM resources deployed to assist Tennessee's Hurricane Helene recovery efforts include emergency management personnel to support "logistics and disaster finance operations." Governor Abbott's Office said these new resources are an addition to resources that are actively supporting state and local officials across the Southeast United States after Hurricane Helene impacted the region.
