FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Horror icons made their way to Fresno over the weekend to say "whassup" to local horror fanatics. On Saturday, Dave Sheridan, most notably recognized as "Doofy" from "Scary Movie," and Felissa Rose who played "Angela" in "Sleepaway Camp" took to Partyworks in Fresno to share a laugh, a smile, and an occasional tear. Having been to horror conventions all around the world with exclusives ranging to $200 per ticket, they say the smaller, more intimate meets are the most cherished. "We love it. It's so fun and it's a change of pace because we do a lot of big conventions, we do smaller shows— and these kinds of events allow us the opportunity to really connect, and they're intimate and you get to meet friends you haven't seen in a while and you really get close with people and it's beautiful," Rose said. "Each one offers a different type of opportunity to either for us to engage or the people that love the movies to engage," said Sheridan. "This is a way for people from all different spectrums of the world to come and interface with us— to hang out." Fans as young as eight-year-old Daisy Whalen who may not be old enough to watch movies like "Sleepaway Camp," still find themselves connected to the iconography of characters such as Angela. "I'm a very big fan of Angela as you see I have her perfume, but I don't really like horror movies that much... This is my third time meeting her and we don't really see her that often but she's always in my heart and I love Angela," Daisy said dressed in Camp Arawak attire. Having met Daisy several times before, Rose says it's connections with people like her that make these experiences so valuable. "Moments like that are what really keeps you inspired, moments like that really make you feel like 'Wow this is so special.' To be able to go make these films and then have that kind of connection and love is just mind-blowing and beautiful," Rose said. "When you hear how she speaks and the impact that someone like Felissa has on her— it brought us to tears when we were listening to her," Sheridan said. Sheridan also shared some behind-the-scenes experiences like how he had to do the Ghost Face voice live during takes and even brought a cameraman to tears. "My biggest memory though— people always go 'Oh did you crack up,' I didn't really crack up in either one of my characters but the cameraman, one time, was laughing so hard that the camera was shaking and we had to retake it," Sheridan recalled. "I think he even had a steady cam like 'Wait he was shaking with a steady cam?' C'mon." Throughout their careers, both agree they are in awe of just the amount of love and support they continue to receive from horror fans alike.
