A 35-year-old Snyderville Basin man is being held without bail in the Summit County Jail stemming from a domestic violence incident over the weekend. Summit County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Sunday were dispatched to an apartment complex on Bitner Road after a woman reported her boyfriend had hit and choked her, according to an affidavit of probable cause. The woman had bruises and scratches on her neck, stomach, legs and arms as well as bloodshot eyes. She told deputies the man had choked her in their bedroom to the point of unconsciousness and said he had punched her several times. A broken vase was observed in the bedroom.The man was uninjured and told deputies he was defending himself. He denied assaulting the woman. He was believed to be highly intoxicated, the report said.The woman told deputies the man often becomes violent with her and she fears for her safety. He was arrested and charged with aggravated assault, a second-degree felony, as well as misdemeanor charges of intoxication, property damage and disorderly conduct.The Sheriff’s Office responded to several other calls between Monday, Sept. 30, and Sunday, Oct. 6, including reports of driving under the influence, an injured hiker and drugs.Sunday, Oct. 6Deputies attempted to locate a reckless driver in Pinebrook. The driver was spotted near Canyon Creek Apartments. Deputies spoke with the driver, who displayed signs of impairment. A standardized field sobriety test was conducted and the man was arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.A vehicle operating without insurance was stopped on westbound Interstate 80. Deputies stopped the car and discovered the driver had violated a previous alcohol offense. He was arrested and booked into the Summit County Jail.Saturday, Oct. 5Summit County Search and Rescue helped locate a lost hunter who had been separated from his party the night before. The individual was located before the crews arrived. Search and Rescue was paged for an injured person who sustained chest and head injuries on a mountain. A medical helicopter located the individual and transported the person to a hospital before Search and Rescue arrived.Multiple people reported a reckless driver on I-80. Deputies attempted to pull the vehicle. However, it failed to yield. The driver eventually stopped and was taken into custody for reckless driving, failure to stop and reckless endangerment.A deputy observed a vehicle failing to maintain its travel lane on S.R. 248. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver displayed signs of impairment. Deputies also observed the smell of alcohol coming from inside the car. The driver participated in a field sobriety test, which he performed poorly on. The man was arrested for suspected DUI and also faces charges of driving without a valid license or insurance.Friday, Oct. 4Search and Rescue assisted deputies with a death investigation near mile marker 15 on Mirror Lake Highway.Deputies responded to a noninjury accident near Pinebrook. The driver smelled strongly of alcohol and she performed poorly on a field sobriety test. The woman was arrested for suspected drunk driving. She was taken to a local hospital for a medical evaluation, and the woman was released with a citation due to medical concerns.Deputies were dispatched to the outlet mall for an aggravated assault in progress. Deputies arrested one man. While in handcuffs, he continued to resist law enforcement and struggled with deputies. He was ultimately subdued, and charged with assault on a peace officer, unlawful acquisition of a financial transaction card and more.Tuesday, Oct. 1A vehicle traveling on Main Street in Coalville failed to stay in one lane. The driver pulled onto westbound I-80, and deputies initiated a traffic stop. The man was suspected to be under the influence of alcohol, and he performed poorly on a field sobriety test. He was arrested for suspected DUI and taken to the Summit County Jail.A traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle for a registration violation on I-80. Deputies utilized a K9, which indicated drugs were present. The car was searched, and a small amount of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia was located.
