HONOLULU (KHON2) -- Honolulu firefighters on the west side were kept busy on Monday morning after responding to a 74-acre brush fire in Maili and a semi-truck fire on the H-1 Freeway. Check out what's going on around the nation on our National News page HFD first responded to the Maili brush fire after flames broke out around 9 a.m. along Marconi Street. Smoldering fire extinguished at H-Power facility Honolulu police arrived at the scene shortly before 9:30 a.m. and initiated a temporary road closure of Paakea Road between Iliili Road and Mailiili Road. The road is now open. Firefighters contained the flames just after 10 a.m. Officials said no structures are threatened. No word yet on whether the fire was extinguished. Shortly before noon, HFD responded to a semi-truck fire on the H-1 Freeway in the westbound direction. Red semi-truck engulfed in flames on H-1 Freeway near Kunia offramp on Oct. 7, 2024. (Courtesy: Michelle Aguinaldo) The incident happened near the Kunia off-ramp causing several lane closures as crews worked to put out the flames, creating bumper-to-bumper traffic.
