FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The Northwest Allen County Schools Board of Trustees (NACS) voted on the 2025 budget during Monday night's meeting. The school board approved all budget-related items on their agenda. The education fund increased by 2.5% to 3.5%. Most of these funds will go towards classroom supplies and teacher salaries. The operation fund will increase by 4%, per state legislation, which the district will collect through property taxes. The operation fund includes capital projects planned for 2025, the bus replacement plan, and more. The bus replacement plan includes an extra two buses for 2025 due to an increase in bus riders. 2 more YMCA locations getting 24-hour access Among the approval of the 2025 budget, Superintendent Wayne Barker briefly discussed the possibility of an operating referendum for future projects as the district continues to grow quickly. "We want to make sure we are not just going for an operating referendum and asking our taxpayers for more money, we want to pursue all of the avenues," said Brandon Basham, Chief Financial Officer, NACS. The board also provided updates on the current construction projects for the district's new middle school, Willow Creek, additions/renovations to Carroll High School, and the NACS Administration Center. Willow Creek Middle School - progress to sixth and seventh grade wings. Progress continues at Carroll High School. Sidewalks to be finished by the end of November at the NACS Administration Center.
