FORT WAYNE, Ind. - An annual meteor shower known as the Draconids peaks tonight (October 7) into Tuesday morning. You may still be able to see some meteors Tuesday night into Wednesday, too. However, it's important to know this is not a meteor shower that reliably produces tons of great meteor views in the sky. With our clear sky Monday night, and if away from bright lights, you may see just a few meteors per hour (if you're lucky). According to astronomy expert Tony Rice, this meteor shower is worth knowing about because, "...since the radiant, or point where the meteors appear to be coming from is so high in the sky,...[it makes] the meteors that are visible, visible for longer." Rice says this meteor shower can have years where many more meteors than is typical appear. The last time there was such an outburst was back in 2018. When trying to spot meteors, you do not have to look in any certain direction. Get to a dark spot outside, look up, give your time eyes to adjust, and be patient. It there's a meteor, it will catch your eye and your attention.
