Hurricane Helene: Northern Virginia 911 dispatchers head to North Carolina

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) -- Some Northern Virginia counties deployed over a dozen 911 dispatchers on Monday morning to centers in North Carolina most impacted by Hurricane Helene.
A total of 17 personnel are responding from Fairfax County, Loudoun County, Prince William County, Charlottesville and the National Capital Region Incident Management Team. Officials in Fairfax County said the Virginia Team will be deployed for 11 days.
The mission will assist emergency communications with call-taking and dispatching in 911 centers to help impacted areas' emergency response capabilities.

North Carolina dispatchers who have been working around the clock will also be granted some reprieve and time to focus on family, their homes and other relief efforts.
This is the first time in history that the Fairfax County Department of Public Safety and Communications will be deployed outside of Virginia, county officials noted. Four of the 911 dispatchers deployed are from Fairfax County.
