NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – The trial for Ryan Martinez, 24, has been canceled after a plea deal was reached. Martinez was scheduled to begin trial Monday, Oct. 7 after being accused of shooting Jacob Johns in September 2023 during a protest against the Juan de Oñate statue outside of the Rio Arriba County Annex. Martinez was charged with attempted murder but agreed to plead no contest to charges of aggravated battery and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Martinez was sentenced to four years in prison.
