PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — The Anne C. Pappas Center for Breast Imaging opens the first facility in Rhode Island to offer contrast-enhanced mammography (CEM). CEM is a digital technique designed to improve the diagnostic capabilities for breast cancer detection. According to Lifespan, CEM has advanced cancer detection features that enhances visualization of tumors, particularly for those with a recent cancer diagnoses, a history of breast cancer, or abnormal mammogram results. The combination of the injection of an iodine-based contrast agent and a mammogram helps create a more clear distinction between normal breast tissue and potential lesions, according to Radiologist and Director of the Pappas Center, Martha Mainiero. For more information on CEM services, you can visit the Anne C. Pappas Center for Breast Imaging website. Categories: Rhode Island, Your Health
