High pressure is now in control of our weather in Southern New England, bringing sunshine and cooler fall temperatures through the workweek. A couple of items of note include cold overnight lows in the 30s that could lead to the development of frost. As a result, this is a good week to bring in any plants or tender vegetation that you don’t want to put at risk. Looking to the weekend, there will still be abundant sunshine and milder temperatures near 70. Our next chance of showers looks to be next Monday. All eyes are on the tropics this week. Hurricane Milton is a powerful category 5 hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico. It has maximum sustained winds of 175 mph with gusts of 190 mph. It will brush by the northern part of the Yucatan Peninsula tonight and turn northeast towards Florida. This situation is still evolving but it will likely make landfall Tuesday late/Wednesday in the Tampa Bay area with a storm surge of 8-12 feet and major hurricane strength winds of 125 mph. Rainfall will also lead to flooding across a band of central Florida. As the storm crosses the Florida Peninsula Wednesday, it will be a major hurricane for the entire duration, not weakening until it emerges into the Atlantic. Categories: News, Weather Forecast
