OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – Oklahoma City Police Chief Ron Bacy announced on Monday the department was adding additional patrols to Bricktown to enforce the area’s curfew on minors. Bacy said 10 extra officers will focus solely on enforcing the curfew, which went into effect in March 2023. "This is not just for their safety, but the safety of everyone. There is a reason why this curfew was enacted,” said Bacy. “We saw whenever there were large disturbances, the potential for things to get out of hand occurred. So we want this to remain a family, fun and friendly environment for everyone." The announcement came after two shootings and a stabbing in Bricktown over a span of 24 hours. On Friday night, one person was hurt when he was stabbed during a fight. On Saturday evening, shortly before 10 p.m., one person was shot during a fight between two groups of people in the Bass Pro Shop parking lot. An hour later, four people were shot during a fight between two groups of people near the Harkins Theater. "A couple of these individuals opened fire towards the other group of people that they were having altercation with,” said Cpt. Valerie Littlejohn, Oklahoma City Police. UPDATE: Suspect in Saturday night downtown OKC shooting arrested Officers found two guns and arrested a 14-year-old boy."What's even more alarming to me is that we find 14-year-olds with handguns,” said Bacy. “We know at that age they don't have the maturity to make those type of decisions." News 4 was initially told three people were taken into custody, but police said only one was arrested. Still no arrests in the first shooting and the stabbing. Since August, 10 people have been shot in the Bricktown area after gunfire broke out. Bricktown’s district manager, Patrick Sullivan, told News 4,“The safety of our community is our top priority. We work directly with the dedicated Bricktown OKCPD subdivision, who are equipped to respond to incidents quickly and ensure safety in the district. For the most current information, we encourage the public to contact OKCPD directly. We are committed to ensuring Bricktown continues to be a safe and vibrant destination for all." Oklahoma City police urge anyone with information on any of the three cases to call Crimestoppers at (405) 235-7300 or (800) 632-TIPS.
