MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- Mid-South state law enforcement agencies have been busy after a slew of law enforcement-involved shootings have occurred since the end of August. In the past 24 hours, there have been two - one in Memphis and a second in Tipton County. Early Monday morning, a prowler call led to a police chase. After a car crashed, investigators say that those involved took off running. However, a 17-year-old didn't listen to commands to drop his gun and for reasons now under investigation, officers shot at the teen and injured him. This shooting comes just hours after about 30 miles away, an 18-year-old was shot and killed by a Tipton County deputy. In that case, the TBI said the teen and the deputy exchanged gunfire. Teen critical after chase, officer-involved shooting; 2 men on the run On Friday, there was a shooting in Hernando, Mississippi where an FBI agent shot and killed a person. Weeks ago, a 26-year-old was killed in Memphis after police say they tried to stop a carjacked Dodge Charger. Investigators say that the man shot at police chasing him. That same day, a 68-year-old man was shot and killed by police in Olive Branch, Mississippi after officers said they were executing a search warrant at his home for child pornography and he shot at them. At last check, all of these cases are still under investigation. Suspect shot by Tipton County deputy during shootout Back in August, a Munford police officer shot at a woman after a pursuit report said she refused to stop for an officer on Highway 51 near Covington, Tennessee. In an interview with WREG Investigators, Daniel Webster with the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Violence Solutions said his department's research showed a 30% increase in assaults with guns after states went from having policies in place to receive a license for carrying a gun to permitless carry. "And we also saw more civilians shot by police officers," Webster said. "One can only, it's not a big leap of faith to sort of connect the dots that when law enforcement officers are encountering more and more individuals who they, of course, engage with as part of their job who are armed, that's a key component of why an officer might choose to use this weapon."
