INDIANAPOLIS — Swifties will soon be flocking to Indianapolis but might be heading straight into a gridlocked traffic jam due to a major interstate closure. The Indiana Department of Transportation announced that Interstate 65 southbound will be completely closed near downtown Indianapolis for 16 straight days starting on Oct. 18. This means the scheduled closure would still be in effect in downtown Indianapolis when tens of thousands of Swifties descend upon the Circle City for the Eras Tour — Taylor Swift's three-night concert phenomenon which is expected to draw massive crowds of 70,000+ on Nov. 1, 2, and 3 to Lucas Oil Stadium. INDOT said the major traffic thoroughfare will close down completely for southbound commuters between West Street and Alabama Street. Drivers will be forced to exit at West Street and be funneled onto downtown city streets. Numerous entrance and exit ramps will be closed as part of the closure, which is to allow for deck patching and joint repairs. Entrance ramps set to be closed on Oct. 18 for 16 days include: 38th Street eastbound to I-65 southbound Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street southbound to I-65 southbound 29th Street eastbound and 30th Street westbound to I-65 southbound 21st Street eastbound and westbound to I-65 southbound West Street northbound to I-65 southbound Exit ramps scheduled to be closed as part of the construction project include: I-65 southbound to Meridian Street I-65 southbound to Michigan Street, Ohio Street, and Fletcher Avenue I-65 southbound to I-70 eastbound and westbound INDOT said more information will be released about the closure next week.
