STURGEON BAY, Wis. (WFRV) - The Wisconsin Department of Transportation will soon close the Michigan St. Bridge in Sturgeon Bay for construction. According to a release, the Michigan St. Bridge will be closed from 7:00 a.m. Mondays through 4:00 p.m. Thursdays during the weeks of Oct. 14, Oct. 21, and Oct. 28. Crews will install fiber wrap on the bridge counterweight. Will Milton make landfall as a Category 5 hurricane? The bridge will be in the open position for most work, allowing marine passage. If work necessitates the bridge being secured in the closed position, crews will reopen it for marine traffic at noon each day. Motorists can use either of the two other crossings in Sturgeon Bay while the Michigan Street Bridge is closed. Department of Natural Resources: Crews contain a 6.5-acre fire at a state park in Wisconsin This planned maintenance will create a safer passageway for motorists across the bay of Sturgeon Bay by wrapping around the bridge counterweight to prevent debris from possibly coming loose and falling on the bridge roadway below.
