ISLE OF PALMS, S.C. (WCBD) - Isle of Palms hopes to continue helping Western North Carolina after Hurricane Helene hit. One city council member is preparing an ordinance for Isle of Palms to adopt a sister city in the Appalachia region. "They just need a little bit of help," Jimmy Ward, councilman of Isle of Palms, said. "I'm not talking about monetary, I'm talking more about a shoulder to lean on. If we can help them in logistical things like who to contact." Ward recalled when he was on the council when Hurricane Hugo hit. "We had a lot of needs, and not many resources," Ward said. "I just think this is a way of giving back to a sister community that is going through a really rough time right now."  If the resolution is passed, the councilman expects the city to begin working with local charities. For example, things like donated items can go where they need to when other centers are full. Ward hopes this would be a long-term connection with the chosen city, knowing that the path to recovery is long especially with the winter season looming. The meeting is scheduled for Oct. 8.
