FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) -- A man was shot on Sunday night at the Worldgate Centre in Herndon, according to the Herndon Police Department. According to the department, an officer was on patrol in the area of Worldgate Drive and Elden Street around 7:40 p.m. when he heard what he believed to be gunshots coming from the Worldgate Centre. As he approached the shopping center, he saw a vehicle leave the area at a high speed. Police said a brief pursuit ensued to catch the alleged suspect on Dulles Toll Road. While in pursuit, the officer lost sight of the car, ending the chase. Meanwhile, a 911 call came in about a person with multiple gunshot wounds in the shopping center parking lot. Officers arrived on the scene and gave lifesaving aid to the man until responders arrived. Responders took the man to a local hospital in life-threatening condition. As of Monday morning, the man was in stable condition following surgery.
